2.4 Internet Resources
2.4.1 Current Geographical Publication - The January 1998 issue of Current Geographical Publication is now available at the site "http://leardo.lib.uwm.edu/cgp."
2.4.2 Getty Thesaurus of Geographic Names (TGN) - The Getty Information Institute is pleased to announce the release of its latest vocabulary tool, the Getty Thesaurus of Geographic Names (TGN). The nearly 900,000 places in the TGN are arranged in a hierarchical structure representing all nations of the modern world. This hierarchy is arranged from broader to narrower context (e.g., continents, nations, states, provinces, cities etc.). The TGN provides vernacular and English names of places, variant names in other languages, and whenever possible, historical names. The record for a place may also contain geographical coordinates, dates, and notes. The Web version is available at "http://www.gii.getty.edu/tgn_browser."
2.4.3 Coastal Management: A Bibliography of Geographic Information System Applications Database - For the past twelve months, teams from the Sea-Grant Institute at the University of Wisconsin-Madison (USA), at the Coastal Services Centre of NOAA (South Carolina, USA) and the Coastal Resources Centre at University College Cork (Ireland) have been compiling a bibliography of scientific literature relating to coastal and marine applications of geographic information systems (GIS) and related technologies.
The resulting database has now been put on the World Wide Web as a fully-interactive, searchable resource at http://www2.csc.noaa.gov/gisprojects/biblio/default.asp.
2.4.4 Coast Survey Annual Reports Bibliography - There is a bibliography on the web for Coast Survey ANNUAL REPORTS: http://www.lib.noaa.gov/edocs/cgsreports.html
3.1 GIS in Public Health - GIS in Public Health Conference, San Diego, California, 17 - 20 August 1998. This conference will highlight innovative applications of GIS (geographic information systems) and spatial analysis techniques for the protection of public health and the environment. Complete conference details can be obtained on ATSDR's Home Page, located at "http://atsdr1.atsdr.cdc.gov:8080/GIS/conference/."
