Flagstaff is
located in Northern Arizona at an elevation close to
7,000 feet. It is situated at the base of the San Francisco
Peaks (the highest mountains in Arizona) and is situated
among ponderosa pine trees. Population is about 57,000.
By mid-September, summer monsoons in Flagstaff will
have hopefully disappeared. Temperatures will be quite
comfortable during the day (avg. daily temps for September:
high 73 and low 41) but will drop significantly for
the evening, so be sure to bring some warm clothes.
Flagstaff is about 2 ½ hours north of Phoenix and about 4 hours east of Las Vegas at the crossroads of Interstates 17 and 40. The south rim of the Grand Canyon is about 1 ½ hours from Flagstaff.
Flagstaff is home to Northern
Arizona University (NAU),
where our conference will be held. NAU is home to over
11,000 undergraduates but the total student population
is 18,000 due to extensive distance learning programs.
