As this year comes to an end, I’d like to thank each and every one of you for making our community so wonderful. It was a pleasure to gather with everyone this past September for our annual meeting. I think that the David Rumsey Map Center provided a perfect setting for the event and it was yet another reminder as to how fascinating our work is. I’d like to thank all of the presenters for doing a tremendous job in regards to content of their presentations as well as for their ability to articulate the value of maps in scholarship.
I am delighted to see an increasing amount of work being done to surface geographic information embedded in unique and interesting collections, including the digitization and description of the Sanborn Maps, the indexing of topographic map sets using vector shapefiles, and the efforts being made towards a linked data model for maps, atlases, and GIS resources. I look forward to collaborating with many of you on these endeavors over the coming years.
Wishing you all a joyous and safe holiday season. Happy New Year!
