Pre-Conference Workshops

This year we are excited to have a choice of two pre-conference workshops that will run in parallel on Wednesday, September 18 from 1:30 – 5 pm.

Basic Python for Map & GIS Librarians

Curious about coding? This workshop will give participants an intro to the basics of the python programming language as used by map & GIS librarians. Topics covered will include reading/writing files, working with tables, and visualizing data (including mapping!). No previous coding experience or laptop required. Co-taught by Kim Durante (Stanford University) & Phil White (CU Boulder). Registration limited to 20 people.

Best Practices for Map & GIS Librarianship

Wanting to brush up on your skills or just new to map & GIS libraries? This workshop will offer an overview of best practices for some of the core duties in our specialized area of librarianship. Taught by Janet Reyes (UC Riverside).
